Tattoo Aftercare
Congrats on your new Tattoo! Now comes the important part: AFTERCARE. The better you care for it, the better it will heal and look for years to come. Here's your guide to keeping that ink vibrant and flawless.
First, leave the bandage on for at least 3 days after your session. This protective layer helps shield your tattoo while it starts the healing process. When it's time to take it off, do so gently in the shower with warm water—it'll be much easier and more comfortable.
Once the bandage is off, it’s time for a gentle wash. Use some warm water and a small amount of unscented, gentle soap to clean the tattooed area. Be careful not to scrub—just lightly rinse away any blood, plasma, or leftover ink. Don’t use anything harsh like sponges or towels—just your hands or a soft cloth will do. Afterward, pat the area dry with a clean paper towel NO RUBBING!
Next, it’s time to moisturize! Apply a thin layer of a fragrance-free lotion like Lubriderm 2-4 times a day, or whenever the area feels dry or tight. Keeping the tattoo moisturized will help it heal quickly and reduce itching, but don’t overdo it. A little goes a long way—just enough to keep it hydrated and comfortable.
Speaking of itching, as your tattoo heals, you might feel the urge to scratch or pick at it. Don’t do it! Scratching can pull the pigment out and slow the healing process. If it gets really itchy, try gently tapping or slapping the area instead—it works better than you’d think!
Avoid wearing tight clothing that rubs against your tattoo during the healing process. Anything that causes friction can irritate the skin and interfere with the healing. You should also stay away from swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, or rivers. These can introduce bacteria to your fresh tattoo and cause infection. Plus, chlorinated water can dry out and damage the tattoo.
And one more thing: Sun Exposure. The sun’s UV rays can fade your tattoo before it’s even had a chance to fully heal. For the first few weeks, keep your tattoo out of the sun. Once it’s healed, always use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) if you're out in the sun for extended periods.
Healing time is typically 3-4 weeks, but it can vary depending on your skin and the size of the tattoo. Be Patient—let it heal properly and resist the urge to rush things.
If you notice anything unusual, like excessive redness, swelling, or signs of infection, don’t hesitate to contact a healthcare professional. And if you ever have any questions about how to care for your tattoo, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always happy to help!
Enjoy your new piece of art and remember—treat it well, and it’ll be a stunning part of you for years to come!
